Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan: The President's man
Well, seldom does it happen in the world of sports, especially cricket that the President of a nation intervenes and declares that they are not going to give away their emerging star cricketer to any other nation.

Yes, I am referring to none other than Rashid Khan, the Afghan cricketer and the second highest wicket taker of IPL season 11 which concluded on Sunday.

In the ICC T20I bowling rankings he stands proudly at the number 1 position and in ODIs he is holds the 2nd place which speaks volumes about the talent this hard working 19-year-old all-rounder possesses.

Before we move forward let us have a quick look at his bowling statistics: Matches Balls Runs Wickets Best Economy Average S/R 5W

ODI 43 2181 1440 100 18/7 3.96 14.4 21.81 4

T20I 29 660 645 47 3/5 5.86 13.72 14.04 1

IPL 31 732 816 38 19/3 6.69 21.47 19.26 0

He had made his ODI debut vs Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club on October 18, 2015. He played his last ODI against the Windies at the Harare Sports Club on March 25, 2018. His last T20I appearance was against Zimbabwe at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium on February 6, 2018.

Rashid Khan made his IPL debut in the game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 05, 2017.

On Sunday, playing against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, he bowled well in the final for Sunrisers Hyderabad. At the young age of 18 years, in February 2018, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 4 crore.

He was the fastest to reach 100 ODI wickets, breaking the previous record by a good margin of 8 matches. From the very beginning he has been fully following Shahid Afridi's footsteps. Rashid bowls almost along similar lines - from stump to stump - at an equivalent if not quicker pace, not permitting the batsman any time to move out and get to the pitch of the ball.

He has already become a good trustworthy first-class bowler, with his impressive eight-wicket haul in Afghanistan's innings win over Ireland in the ICC Intercontinental Cup match, that too at Greater Noida, India - perhaps the most suitable country for Rashid Khan to sharpen his deadly bowling skills.

Rashid happens to be an agile fielder who is well capable of putting in the dives along with excelling in hitting big shots while batting. He has got tremendous skills to bowl as many as dot balls thereby becoming a true reliever bowler for any captain.

This 19-year-old was born in Nangarhar in Afghanistan and grew up with 10 siblings. While he was still young, he lived in Pakistan for a while but returned to his homeland soon after.

This committed, hardworking and dedicated bowler has unlimited possibilities to improve and he can easily become the number one Test bowler if he continues to work hard. Defining his calibre, one of the commentators rightly said that sky is the limit for him. He will certainly fulfil all the dreams of his countrymen and his President.
