Hindu tourists to Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka make it a point to visit Ashok Vatika and the temple dedicated Sita Mata
"Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka is a city in the hill area of its Central Province and its name means the 'city of light' which works as a popular tourist destination because of the picturesque landscape and temperate climate along with some some spots worth visiting. Most tourists from India and Hindus from other parts of the world come here to visit Ashok Vatika wherein Lord Rama's wife was kept captive by King Ravana. The place now has a temple dedicated to Sita Mata called Seetha Kovil. Since Hanuman had met Sita Mata here, it is also called Hanuman Kovil," informed my kin who have visited the place and will be in Sri Lanka for a few more days to tour other places.

A quick round of the city can be very refreshing because of its splendid golf course, trout streams, Victoria Park, boating in Lake Gregory and Victoria Park's oasis. Those interested in birdwatching can spend some time at the oasis.

Also, Galway's Land Bird Sanctuary, close to Lake Gregory, is home to many birds. One can also find wild boars and barking deer here. On the outskirts of the city and countryside vegetables, fruit and flowers are cultivated in a big way and an area that specially cultivates potatoes, carrots, leeks, and roses is popularly known as 'Little England', I am told.

Around Nuwara Eliya, the hills are green and tall and lower parts of hills have vast tea gardens and the area works as most important location for tea production in Sri Lanka. Close to the city is the 'Lovers Leap' - a spectacular cascading 30 metre high waterfall among tea plantation. The city also has the horse and motor race courses.

Since the city is overlooked by the mount Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, the lights of city can be seen from many small towns from the hill or from the roads. The area has many hill stations and Nuwara Eliya is also deemed as a hill station for its temperate, cool climate.

The Hindu temple, Seetha Kovil, is located at Seetha Eliya village on the way to Badulla from Nuwara Eliya, before reaching the Hakgala Botanical Garden which is visited by thousands of people each day including students and researchers.

In this area, there is a church called the Holy Trinity Church on Church Road which is visited for its architecture. However, wildlife lovers go to Horton Plains National Park which boasts of open grassy woodland populated by leopards, sambar deer, purple-faced langurs along with reptiles, small animals and a good variety of birds.
