Italian actress to play Sonia Gandhi while Hollywood actor will star as Rahul in upcoming film based on Manmohan Singh
Director Hansal Mehta's upcoming political drama film – 'The Accidental Prime Minister', which is based on a book of the same name written by Sanjaya Baru who served as the media adviser and chief spokesperson (2004-2008) to former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh, is likely to have an Italian actress playing Sonia Gandhi, according to the Economic Times (ET).

An Indo-Irish actor who has acted in Hollywood films will play the role of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi while versatile veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has already been finalised for the key role of Manmohan Singh in the movie, as per the ET report.

Besides that, other Indian film actors will play the roles of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former president APJ Abdul Kalam; and Sonia Gandhi's political secretary, Ahmed Patel. But the filmmakers have refused to reveal the identities of any of these actors, either foreign or Indian.

The movie is expected to hit the screens worldwide on December 21, 2018, just a few months before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The film will be produced by Sunil Bohra who has earlier produced many blockbuster movies such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and Tanu Weds Manu among others.

"The script has been finalised and will throw up quite a few surprises for the viewers," Bohra said.

He further added, "It will be both wrong and unfair to even suggest that there is any agenda, let alone a political one, in making of this movie."

The film's Producer further added, "The nature of the contract is such that I have to release the movie by December next year."

According to the source, the special emphasis of the film will be on the inside workings of the PMO during Manmohan Singh's tenure.
