Jaipur to host national seminar on "Gendered Urban Spaces: Narratives of Self-Possession"
The Department of English of the IIS University, Jaipur, is organising a two-day National Seminar on "Gendered Urban Spaces: Narratives of Self-Possession" in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi on 17-18 February.
The aim of the seminar is to examine 'gendered urban space' as the 'product of man-woman interaction' and how women have been reported in literature with regard to space, inform the organisers of the seminar.

"Space as constituted through interaction between two between the two sexes which may also involve transgressing boundaries…Space the possibility of existence of multiplicity, that is, it is the sphere in which distinct trajectories coexist as the sphere, therefore, of coexisting heterogeneity," says the concept note of the conference.

The subthemes of the seminar are such as the gendered public spaces and place; women rights into the categories; full citizenship of one's own; many other similar topics.

However, one needs to understand that 'space' in the one's place in the world and a sense of feeling comfortable. It has been felt that even in urban areas, gender inequalities get caused by hegemonic implicit masculine dominance.

Some feminists believe that skyscrapers in urban areas are also patriarchal symbols.
