One SSB constable killed and another injured in firing near Banihal on Srinagar-Jammu highway
A constable of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) was shot dead and an assistant sub-inspector of the SSB was left injured in an attack, motive of which is still unclear.

The attack took place near under-construction Banihal-Qazigund tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

The SSB constable who has lost his life has been identified as Ram Parveshar Yadav and the injured ASI as Sham Singh. While the reason for the killing is not yet clear, the police have refused to ignore the terror link associated with the attack. The police have said that they will be able to ascertain the motive only after investigating the case. The incident took place on Wednesday at about 7:30 pm when a patrolling party of the SSB was returning to its base camp.

Interestingly, doctors were surprised to find that despite being shot at from close range, the injured jawan did not have any bullet wound on his body. As per reports, Singh appears to have been hit by a blunt object which broke his jaw.

Also, weapons of both the deceased as well as his injured colleague have been missing, adding to the suspicion of it being a terror attack.

The police are probing the incident and while they have not eliminated the terror angle, they have also not ruled out the possibility of it being an incident of fratricide killing and the two shooting at each other as a result of a heated argument.

Also, if it was a terror attack, the response of the SSB personnel will be investigated as reportedly there was no cross-firing with only one bullet being fired at the place of incident. But if the terror angle is proven, it will be second major attack on the much guarded Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
