PM Narendra Modi to launch 'power for all' scheme on Deendayal Upadhyaya's birth anniversary: Power Minister RK Singh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to announce the much-awaited power scheme for providing '24X7 electricity' to all on the occasion of RSS ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya's birth anniversary, which falls on September 25.

"Another challenge is coming on September 25...when the Prime Minister will announce a big scheme for providing power for all 24X7," Power Minister RK Singh said at 'The India Power Conclave' organised by Network18.

Talking about the scheme at the event, Singh informed that all states have been asked by the Centre to prepare the electrification projects which would be discussed and approved regarding for the release of funds under the scheme.

According to government sources, the scheme will be named 'Saubhagya', comprising subsidy that will be provided on electric equipments such as transformers, meters and wires.

On power sector reforms, the Minister talked about bringing legislative changes by announcing stricter rules in order to enforce power purchase agreements RK Singh, who has independent charge of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, further added that the issue of dumping of solar & other clean energy equipments is being examined by his Ministry.

The Government of India has been working hard to electrify all villages/rural areas and is committed to provide each household access to electricity, round the clock in the country.

Regarding this, the Central Government wants to achieve '24X7 power for all' by 2019.

24x7 - Power for All is a Joint Initiative which was started by the Government of India (GoI) with 36 States and UTs in order to provide 24x7 electricity available to all households, industry, commercial businesses, public needs, and any other electricity consuming entity by 2019.
