Priyanka Chopra receives flak for calling Sikkim insurgency-hit
Priyanaka Chopra sparked a fresh controversy for her remark on Sikkim. She said that Sikkim is a state 'troubled with insurgency' at the Toranto International Film Festival.

Pahuna is the first film from the region which is produced by her company. Her contentious remark was not taken in good spirits. People were quick enough to revert back saying that Sikkim still remains as "one of the most peaceful states" in India and there were references of some noteworthy films that were produced from this part of India.

Pahuna received a standing ovation at TIFF. Speaking in an interview, Priyanka told ET Canada, "Sikkim is a small state in the North-east of India which never had a film industry or anyone who made a film from the region. This is the first film ever that's come out of that region, because it's very troubled with insurgency and troubling situations."

Sikkim's film industry is in a blossoming state, there are films being made in the state which are critically acclaimed. Dhokbu a Lepcha was a film which premiered this year; it also earned a lot of praise and accolades.

Priyanaka also talked about the theme of the film 'Pahuna'. She said, "This is a film about two kids and their perspective on the refugee crisis on being moved from one place to another without understanding the reason."

Priyanka's statement has not been taken in a positive stride; it has been subjected to a lot of backlash on social media and other online forums. People have asked her to get her facts verified.

A tweet as quoted says, "She's speaking on a global stage she should at least get her facts straight. It casts a wrong idea for people who've never been to Sikkim.

There hasn't been any report on Priyanka's take on the whole controversy.
