Senior Indian hockey player Gurbaj Singh banned for nine months
Senior Indian Hockey player Gurbaj Singh has been suspended for nine months for indulging in groupism and creating disharmony within the team. The report on Singh mentioned that he showed lack of respect to coaches and other support staff.
This ban makes Gurbaj ineligible to play in any event organised by Hockey India, Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) from August 10, 2015 till May 9, 2016.

Gurbaj will have an opportunity to appeal to the Hockey India Executive Board against the decision of the Athletes Disputes and Grievance Redressal Committee within 30 days.

The unanimous decision was taken following a meeting of the HIL Athletes Disputes and Grievance Redressal Committee to review Gurbaj's conduct. The committee included chairman Harbinder Singh and members R.P. Singh, A.B. Subbaiah and Jasjeet Kaur and was conducted in the presence of coach Jude Felix and Gurbaj.

This is nothing new to Singh, he was suspended for a brief period after the London Olympics following similar accusations from the then chief coach Michael Nobbs and his support staff.

Gurbaj Singh has played more than 200 international hockey matches for India. He had just made a comeback after spending nearly 20 months in exile.
