Who should be punished and reformed for student's murder in school of Gurugram?
After the shocking murder of a seven-year-old child in a school's washroom in Gurugram, hundreds of worried parents rushed to the school premises to pick up their children.

It seems that since the school personnel had no clear cut instructions about how to respond to queries of the parents and hand over children by following a procedure, the parents panicked and brushed aside the teachers and guards and made a dash into the school building to collect their children. They ran helter-skelter looking for and shouting the names of their children.

Finding school staff 'clueless' about the incident and insensitivity towards their children, the parents became restless; they had a scuffle with teachers and started vandalising the school building and staff cars. Most of them started shouting slogans against school management. The parents and other people gathered were cleared out by the police.

Later, to express their anger over the incident and insensitivity of school towards children, parents sat in protest at the police commissioner's office in Gurugram.

  • Different voices are being heard after the shocking incident.
  • Which statement do you agree with and why?
  • Private schools have become money minting places devoid of social sensitivities.
  • There is passive representation and participation of patents in the management of the school?
  • There is so much of externalization in the schools that children have been made faceless identities.
  • Schools merely find faults with parents and children and blame them for non-performance.
  • Schools have become unsafe places for children – physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively.
  • The school is a collective of personnel or an educational management that has erred; punishing one or two individuals is meaningless. The school should be punished and reformed.

Many parents say the schools themselves have become problematic while they are meant to foster and nurture learning potentials of children in a loving and caring environment.  If, this is not happening, schools are jeopardising the life of children and spoiling their future.
