The U.S. swimmer Mark Spitz participated in two summer Olympic Games in 1968 in Mexico City and in 1972 in Munich (West Germany) and won 9 Gold medals. Mark Spitz retired from competition after 1972 Olympic at the age of 22. At the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, Mark Spitz won seven gold medals and it was the record till 2008 Beijing Olympic, when another U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps surpassed the record after won 8 gold. Mark Spitz was named World Swimmer of the Year in 1969, 1971 and 1972. After the retirement from swimming, Mark Spitz worked in TV series. In 1977 he was inducted in International Swimming Hall of Fame and 1983 inducted in United States Olympic Hall of Fame.
