After the wait of 28 long years, Indian cricket team won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on April 2 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the final India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets. Last time India won the Cricket World Cup in 1983. It was also the first ever World Cup final win by a host nation. In the final India chased the target of 275 runs in 48.2 overs. Indian skipper MS Dhoni scored unbeaten 91 runs, whereas Gautam Gambhir was the leading scorer for his side, scored 97 runs. Dhoni was declared man-of-the-match for his best inning in the tournament. Yuvraj Singh , who played the most important role as an all-rounder in the tournament for the country was named Man of the Tournament. He scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets.
