The Last Emperor that won nine Academy Awards in the 60th Academy Awards in 1988 is a biopic about the life of the last Emperor of China, Puyi. Film The Last Emperor produced by Jeremy Thomas and directed by Bertolucci. Puyi's life is depicted from his ascent to the throne as a small boy to his imprisonment and political rehabilitation by the Chinese Communist authorities. The Last Emperor was the first film for which the producers were authorized by the Chinese government to film in the Forbidden City in Beijing. The Last Emperor won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound and Best Adapted Screenplay.
