'Matkas' or water pots are traditional alternatives to refrigerators in scorching Indian summers. With modernisation, refrigerators have replaced these 'matkas' in our homes and offices but they are still a common feature and can be spotted on pavements of various roads like this one in Palam Vihar. Made of baked clay, water remains cold in them, much to the relief of pedestrains and travellers who stop by and quench their thirst by drinking with a steel glass tied to these containers.
