Haryana CM inaugurates 1962 Rezang La war memorial in Palam Vihar
The Rezang La pass was where on November 18, 1962, soldiers of the 13 Kumaon Regiment, comprising of soldiers from the south Haryana Ahirwal community - without artillery cover, killed 2300 Chinese soldiers - fighting at a height of 17,000 feet. Major Shaitan Singh fought bravely and was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest gallantry award for self-sacrifice in the face of the enemy. Built in an area of 7,000 sq. ft., the inauguration of the memorial dedicated to war heroes of one of the bravest battles of the 1962 Indo-China war, was attended by veterans, ex-servicemen, and widows.
