"Short haired women of cities" by Sharad Yadav

The women's bill that sought to bring in reservation for the women was a much debated issue in the Indian parliament. Janata Dal-United(JDU)'s <a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/person/sharad-yadav'>Sharad Yadav</a> was one of the politicians who took a stance against the bill. He held the view that such bills would only benefit well-off women of the cities. To substantiate his idea of 'city-women' he described them as 'par kati auratein' (women with clipped off hair). Mr. Yadav's comment became a reference point of sexist comments in parliament with media and women organizations deeply condemning it.
