This was one of the worst earthquakes in Indian history; it had completely destroyed Munger and Muzaffarpur areas and caused a major damage in northern Bihar and Nepal. Sand and water vents appeared and covered the sunken floors up to 1 m deep. Around 30,000 people were reported dead in the earthquake that measured 8.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in eastern Nepal, about 240 km from Kathmandu.
