Gujarat earthquake, 2001

This earthquake occurred on 51st Republic day at around 8:40 in the morning and lasted for two minutes. The epicenter of the quake was in a village named Chabori in Bhachau Taluka of Kutch district of Gujarat and the magnitude was between 7.6 and 7.7 on the Richter scale. The earthquake almost damaged Bhuj-Ahmadabad-Rajkot area and other parts of Gujarat. At least 20,085 people died, 166,836 got injured, 339,000 buildings were approximately destroyed and 783,000 buildings were damaged.
