Devi Durga's fourth aspect Kushmanda is worshipped on the fourth day of Navaratri. She created Und or Brahmand (Universe) by her light laughter, which gave her this name. She is worshipped for eliminating the darkness out of life because it was her laughter which created universe when the life didn't exist and there was darkness everywhere. She is only goddes who is capable and strong enough to dwell in the Sun. Her aura and illumination of body is like Sun itself. She also illuminates all the ten directions as all the bodies and beings of universe derive power from her only. She has eight arms which give her a another name of Ashtbhuja Devi (meaning Devi with eight arms). She has Kamandalu, Dhanush (bow), Baan (arrows), lotus, Amripturna Lakash, Chakra and Gada in her seven hands and she holds Japmala (provider of Siddhis and Nidhis) in her eight hand.
