Working as the Project Director in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at Koderma, Stayendra Dubey sacrificed his life while fighting against corruption in the golden Quadrilateral highway construction project. At that time he was posted in Gaya, Bihar. During his tenure he exposed several cases and even wrote to then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee about the same in a letter, where he asked PM and authority not to reveal his identity but unfortunately authority did not consider the request which might have resulted in his death. On November 27, 2003, when he was on his way home, he was gunned down in the early hours in front of the Circuit House, Gaya.
