Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Earlier, 2nd October was known as Gandhi Jayanti but in 2014 things have changed. In order to implement Gandhi's thought of 'Clean India', PM <a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/person/narendra-modi'>Narendra Modi</a> launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It was known as biggest ever cleanliness drive where PM Modi himself along with three million people swiped the dirt. The main concern of this campaign is to provide proper sanitation in rural and urban areas, providing facilities like hand pumping and bathing, proper management for solid and liquid waste disposal etc. On the day of launch, Modi also asked nine eminent personalities like <a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/person/sachin-tendulkar'>Sachin Tendulkar</a>, Baba <a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/person/ramdev'>Ramdev</a>, <a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/person/priyanka-chopra'>Priyanka Chopra</a>, <a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/person/anil-ambani'>Anil Ambani</a>, <a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/person/salman-khan'>Salman Khan</a> and others to join him in the campaign.
