'<a id='highlight' href='http://www.merinews.com/topics/events/makar-sankranti'>Makar Sankranti</a>' is the day when we consume til-gul (sesame and jaggery) laddoos or chikkis and also distribute it. As it is said that, Sun forgets his anger against his son, Shani and goes to see him on this day, thus by distributing sweets, everyone is supposed to spread sweetness and joy. Scientifically, as the festival falls in winter, eating sesame and jaggery is also good for health as they are basically warm food.
